Deeper Waters, Indeed

I thought I’d taken the plunge scheduled for this season.  But no. The full moon was the prelude, the new moon the initiation.  I am on the tail of the most frightening, horrible, and grace-filled experience of my life.

Already I feel more compassion, more clarity, and yes more fear.

So this week no fully-formed essay.  Just some thoughts and things to share.

Talk therapy (often used pejoratively as if it is not embodied or a waste of time stuck in ruminating on the past) is a term I do not enjoy. We can’t possibly talk without using our mouths, throats, lungs… in talking we can repair.  We can heal.

And - our bodies are more than talking and thinking machines.  And repairing and healing involves all of us. Bleeding, oozing, breathing, leaving, connecting, regulating...

I recently watched GOOP Lab’s new series on Netflix.  They adventure into psychedelics, cold water therapy, mediumship, energy healing, sexual healing, and various forms of nutrition.  Having tried some form of everything they cover I recommend this series for a look at what is possible in healing.

Healing is a practice.  It is life long. If we expect that one thing will fix it and then we will go back to our daily lives we will struggle most likely.  Because there is no “going back.” Healing is change. We can stop for a while but, in some form, we will progress, life will present its lessons.

Once we have been in therapy for some time - and I believe most of us struggling with anxiety, depression, relationships, purpose - should spend some time exploring this in therapy - that the consistency and depth of solid psychotherapy is a key component of understanding and transforming ourselves - once we have done this we can add in other ways of experiencing ourselves.  The possibilities are endless (see GOOP labs and beyond).

Widening the picture, broadening the question, it doesn’t end.

So I’ll leave you with Netflix and these few thoughts today.  Perhaps you can tell from my diction that I have one foot in another world still.
